Woman claims $534,961 with winning Powerball ticket purchased in Elk Grove

A Sacramento woman who purchased her winning Quick Pick ticket at an Elk Grove convenience store has been identified as the winner in last Saturday’s Powerball drawing.

Eleanor Avent claimed her prize of $534,961 Friday afternoon after she matched five numbers – 16, 19, 20, 29 and 33 – just missing the Powerball number 10.

Avent told lottery officials that she wanted to remain low key about plans for her winnings. She declined to talk with a reporter when reached by phone.

Avent purchased her ticket at the Kwik Korner at 8112 Sheldon Road.

The Powerball jackpot for this Saturday is an estimated $289 million. The cash option is a lump sum amount of an estimated $198.4 million before federal taxes, according to a California Lottery news release.
