Stockton’s mayor received a mostly warm reception at his first City Council meeting since his arrest last week connected to a strip poker game at a youth summer camp.
About 20 Stockton residents expressed support for Mayor Anthony Silva during the public comment portion of the meeting Tuesday night. Several residents expressed their disapproval of the mayor as well.

On Thursday, Silva was charged with a felony of secretly recording confidential communications without consent. He also faces misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, providing alcohol to people under 21, and child endangerment. He spent a few hours in jail before posting bail.
He denies the charges and argues the case is politically motivated and effort to sway voters in November when he faces re-election.
