A 17-year-girl died Saturday night after the car she was driving spun across Highway 49 near Grass Valley and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The girl was the sole occupant of an older Subaru wagon southbound near Lime Kiln Road, said Greg Tassone, California Highway Patrol officer. For unknown reasons she spun into the northbound lane, where a newer Lincoln sedan broadsided her at about 7:15 p.m., he said.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were two occupants in the Lincoln: An adult woman driving and a younger woman, possibly her daughter, in the passenger seat. They were taken to an area hospital with moderate injuries, Tassone said.
