Interstate 80 lanes reopen early after extensive weekend work
Highway construction crews finished ahead of schedule Monday, completing lane-replacement work on the “Across the Top” Interstate 80 project in Sacramento.
Traffic flowed freely Monday morning when lanes through part of Natomas opened about 4:15 a.m., 45 minutes earlier than the estimated reopening time. The anticipated nightmare of a tight traffic over the weekend mostly didn’t develop as motorists found other ways around the closure of westbound lanes.
On Friday evening, Caltrans closed two of the three westbound lanes as well as the westbound ramps onto I-80 from Interstate 5. Crews removed and replaced 1,300 feet of the two lanes.
Caltrans said this is the final lane closure for the $133 million project.
