A fire at in a vacant North Highlands duplex Tuesday night is under examination by arson investigators, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District reports.
Fire crews were dispatched to a empty and boarded up duplex on the 3900 block of Renick Way near Madison Avenue just after 11 a.m., according to a district news release. The crews arrived and witnessed heavy fire coming from the back of the building.
Firefighters checked all areas inside the building, despite showing signs that the duplex was not occupied, to ensure no victims were inside. The fire was extinguished and did not spread to surrounding homes, according to fire officials.
No civilians or any of the 24 firefighters who worked on the fire were injured, the department reported. Arson investigators responded to the scene of the fire and are investigating the cause.
