Two people died and another was injured in a two-vehicle collision in Carmichael early Thursday evening.
The collision was reported at 6:01 p.m. at Garfield Avenue and Kiva Drive, north of Winding Way. California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Chad Hertzell said a black Lexus was northbound on Garfield south of Kiva traveling at a high speed and a red Honda was southbound on Garfield in the left-turn lane. As the Honda was turning from Garfield onto Kiva it was hit broadside by the Lexus.
Hertzell said a passenger in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver died later at an area hospital. They were identified only as a 58-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man.

The 20-year-old driver of the Lexus also was transorted to an area hospital with injuries.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District initially reported one fatality and three injuries in the crash, but Hertzell said only three people were involved in the collision.
Based on officers’ initial investigation, alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, he said.
