A Sacramento State student said she was dragged toward bushes along the American River bicycle trail on Thursday before she was able to fight off her attacker and get away.
The student was off campus near the Howe Avenue bridge about 11:45 a.m. Thursday when a man called to her. The student said she ignored him. The man then ran up to her, hit her and dragged her in the direction of some bushes.
The student said she fought him off and ran away, according to Sacramento State police.
The attacker was described as muscular, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, in his mid-40s, with short black hair. He was wearing a loose-fitting tank top and dark pants.

The woman was treated at a local hospital and released.
