A series of fights at the funeral of a south Sacramento teen on Saturday was the latest turmoil following the young man’s shooting death, police said.
Shukeim Murray, 18, was shot about 2:30 a.m. Feb. 8 on Wainscott Way in Meadowview and died later at an area hospital. Sacramento Police Department detectives say they believe the shooting was targeted and that Murray knew his attacker, but no arrest has been made.
A day after Murray died, the neighborhood saw more violence when gunfire broke out near a memorial for the teen. One person was treated then for an injury that was not life threatening.
Murray’s funeral was Saturday morning at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church on 12th Avenue in Oak Park, police spokesman Doug Morse said. During the funeral, a fight broke out just outside the church doors, a police log shows. Authorities were monitoring the funeral and tried to disperse a resulting crowd, but several other fights broke out. No one was injured.
