Detectives are sorting out the aftermath of gunfire in Meadowview that hit a car in broad daylight, leaving one person dead and another injured.

The Sacramento County Coroner has identified the dead man as James Jackson, 20, of Sacramento. The injured person, who suffered a non life-threatening gunshot wound, has not been indentified.

Sacramento police said that they first learned of the shooting around 1:46 p.m. Sunday when dispatch received a call that someone had been shot. Officers rushed to Meadowview Road and Amherst Street.

There, they found the critically injured Jackson who was transported to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m.

Officers also learned that a second occupant of the car in which Jackson was riding had arrived at a hospital. That person survived his injury.

A preliminary investigation reveals that Jackson and other man were riding in a vehicle near Meadowview and 22nd Street when somebody in another car traveling nearby opened fire.

No motive has been revealed in the shooting. Investigators believe there were other people in the vehicle Jackson and the wounded person were riding in at the time of the shooting.

Officers want to speak with those companions of Jackson.
