Grass Valley police are investigating a Wednesday night shooting in which a man was wounded at a store off McKnight Way.
Officers were dispatched just after 11 p.m. to a residence on Banner Lava Cap Road regarding a man who had suffered a single gunshot wound, according to a Police Department news release. The man reportedly had been assaulted and shot in the 100 block of McKnight Way. He then drove to the home on Banner Lava Cap Road, where he was acquainted with the residents, and asked them for assistance.
The residents aided him, and called police and medical personnel.
The man, whose name has not been released, was transported to a trauma center in Sacramento for treatment of his wound, police said.

The shooting is being investigated by the Grass Valley-Nevada City Joint Investigation Unit, with assistance from investigators with the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office.
Police said Thursday that they were releasing limited information about the incident to protect investigative leads.
