Q: Was anyone arrested for the murder of Carlos Najera in the 1970s?
Dan, Plumas Lake
A: The Sacramento Bee’s archives include a story about a Carlos Najera who was found shot to death in his south Sacramento home in January 1988.
There are no reports of arrests in the case.
Najera, 42, was found about 2:30 p.m. on the kitchen floor of his Wardell Way home by his wife when she returned from a shopping trip. He had been shot once in the chest, police said.
Najera’s 6-year-old son, who was handicapped, was in the house when the shooting occurred but was unharmed. A family member said at the time that it was unlikely the boy, who was partially blind, would be able to help investigators identify the killer.
Police had no motive for the shooting. A $2,500 reward was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the slayer.
