Sailboat found stranded near Discovery Park, no one on board
What was reported as a possible boat in distress near the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers early Monday afternoon proved to be a derelict sailboat.
Chris Harvey, Sacramento Fire Department spokesman, said rising water apparently caused the boat to come loose from its moorings and float into the river. No one was aboard the boat, which became caught on an old water-intake walkway. It was freed by crews from the Sacramento and West Sacramento fire departments.
As of about 3 p.m., the boat had been towed to Discovery Park. Harvey said he did not know where the boat had been moored. The registration number was being checked to identify the owner.
