Two men were arrested early Wednesday after they allegedly tried to break into a closed business in Rocklin, apparently unaware that the owner of the business was still inside.
Rocklin police officers responded to the 6600 block of Lonetree Boulevard at 12:52 a.m. for a report of a burlgary in progress. The owner of the business, who was inside, called 911 to report that two men, both wearing masks, were preparing to break into his business.
When officers arrived, they found the men as they were attempting to leave in a vehicle, according to a Police Department news release. Michael Bennett, 21, of Elverta, and Richard McCormack, 32, of Rio Linda, were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Police said the business recently was the victim of two burglaries. Officers are investigating those burglaries to determine whether Bennett and McCormack were involved in those crimes.
Both men were booked into Placer County Jail. Bennett’s bail was set at $20,000 and McCormack’s bail, at $110,000.
