A man suspected of vehicle theft was taken into custody in the victim’s shower early Tuesday morning.
A series of events leading up to Tuesday’s detaining of the man began recently with the theft of a van in Rio Linda during a home invasion robbery at a home near 7th and Q streets. Then, at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, the alleged thief returned to the victim’s home.
The resident, who apparently knew the 24-year-old man, called the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department to report that he was at the front door. The resident’s friend went outside to talk with him, according to a sheriff’s spokeswoman.
When deputies arrived, the man fled. However, not long after, strangely enough, the victim told deputies that the suspected auto thief was in his enclosed shower.

A bark from a police dog was enough to convince the man to come along. He was expected to be booked on suspicion of auto theft.
The stolen van was recovered at Rio Linda Boulevard and Paladin Way.
