The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in identifying a man accused of using another person’s identity in an attempt to obtain a large sum of money from an Auburn bank.

The incident occurred Monday at the Bank of the West on Lincoln Way in Auburn. When the teller realized that something wasn’t right, the suspect told the teller he was going to his car to let his wife know he was going to be a few minutes, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. The man left and did not return.

Sheriff’s officials said the same suspect successfully obtained money in the same manner from a bank in Paradise on Saturday, and reportedly attempted to obtain money at banks in Oroville and Gridley.

The Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday released a surveillance photo of the suspect. Anyone with information regarding his identity is asked to call Detective Scott Alford at (530) 889-7830.

Call The Bee’s Cathy Locke, (916) 321-5287.
