An Oroville couple has been arrested in a case of alleged elder abuse involving the 2013 death of the husband’s mother.
Gavin Schorovsky, 42, and his wife, Sandy Schorovsky, 43, were arrested about 8 a.m. Wednesday in connection with the death of 68-year-old Deanna Schorovsky.
Sheriff’s deputies responded July 17, 2013, to the Feather River Hospital emergency room. Medical staff members reported seeing multiple severe open wounds on Deanna Schorovsky’s body and found her to be severely malnourished, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. The wounds were infected.
The hospital staff reported the suspected abuse to Butte County Adult Protective Services and the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.

Deanna Schorovsky died July 31, 2013, and after an autopsy, it was determined that her death was directly related to lack of care, sheriff’s officials said.
After a lengthy investigation and consultation with medical professionals, arrest warrants were issued by Butte County Superior Court Judge Michael Deems.
Sheriff’s officials said Sandy Schorovsky will be charged with one-count of second-degree murder, with bail set at $1 million, and Gavin Schorovsky will be charged with elder abuse causing death, with bail set at $150,000. Both were booked into Butte County Jail in Oroville.
