Yolo County authorities released Frank Rees from custody late Wednesday after his plea in Yolo Superior Court to driving violations.

Rees is scheduled to appear April 27 in Lake County Superior Court on another arrest warrant, Yolo County Sheriff’s officials said Thursday. Rees is the father of 19-day-old Justice Rees, who was found dead in a slough near Knights Landing on Feb. 25.

Rees was arraigned Wednesday on an allegation of driving with a suspended license. He pleaded no contest to the charge. Rees received a 10-day jail sentence and one year of misdemeanor probation and will serve his Yolo County sentence at a later date.

Rees’ fiancé, Samantha Lee Green, 23, of Woodland, was also arraigned Wednesday on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment with a great bodily injury enhancement in her child’s death. Green is being held in Yolo County custody in lieu of $250,000 bail. Patricia Rees, the baby’s paternal grandmother, said the infant was born with methamphetamine in his system.

Green made a frantic 911 call Feb. 24 from the backyard of a Knights Landing home and was found without her baby. Searchers located Justice’s body the next morning in Rough Cut Slough. Preliminary autopsy results suggest he drowned or died from hypothermia, but Yolo County medical examiners have not yet determined when Justice Rees died, coroner’s officials said Wednesday.
