The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim in Friday’s fatal shooting in Citrus Heights as Shaun Blechinger, 22.

The man suspected in the shooting, which occurred during a fight at an apartment building, was arrested Saturday. Luther Frazier, 34, was arrested by Citrus Heights police and booked into Sacramento County jail on suspicion of murder.

The killing in the 6500 block of Greenback Lane occurred at about 10:37 a.m. Friday. Police said Blechinger and Frazier knew each other.

Officers responded after a report of shots in the area. Medical assistance was provided but Blechinger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting happened in a neighborhood of fourplexes, some fronting on Greenback Lane and others on Bremen Drive, west of Van Maren Lane.

Sean Clarke, who lives a few buildings away from where the shooting occurred, said he was asleep at the time and didn’t hear anything. A 13-year resident of the neighborhood, Clarke said the incident didn’t surprise him.

Crime in the neighborhood, he said, “comes in waves. It gets better and gets worse in little pockets.”

Anyone who has additional information or who may have witnessed the shooting is asked to call the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727-5500.
