A motorcyclist was badly injured when his attempt to re-start his engine caused him to lose control and crash on Sunday afternoon just outside Nevada City.
Stephen Alan Munkelt, 64, of Nevada City was riding his 2009 Suzuki eastbound on Ridge Road approaching the Nevada City Highway about 4 p.m. Sunday at 20 to 25 mph when the motorcycle’s engine stopped running.
Munkelt down-shifted in an attempt to re-start the motorcycle, according to a California Highway Patrol press release. When he let off on the clutch, the rear wheel locked, causing his motorcycle to fall.
The motorcycle partially landed on Munkelt, causing significant leg injuries.
