U.S. Marshals located a man in Mexico and arrested him for the shooting death of an Elk Grove woman.

Moises Valdez, 38, was wanted in the death of Marissa Pineda De Almanza, a member of the Air Force Reserve. De Almanza’s body was found in her apartment in the 9200 block of Franklin Boulevard by her estranged husband on Nov. 5.

De Almanza died from more than one gunshot wound, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Valdez, described by authorities as an acquaintance of De Almanza. Investigators learned that Valdez fled to Mexico to avoid arrest, according to a Marshals press release.

Deputy U.S. Marshals in California and Arizona discovered the whereabouts of Valdez, leading to his arrest in Mexico. He was arrested and deported to the United States at an Arizona entry point where he was turned over to U.S. Marshals.

Valdez was booked into Yuma County Jail, pending extradition to California to be tried in the homicide of De Almanza.

“This arrest was the result of the outstanding cooperation among multiple offices within the United States Marshals Service working to apprehend fugitives and resolve border-related issues,” said David Gonzales, U.S. Marshal for the District of Arizona.
