A driver was killed when his Volkswagen Beetle went airborne and crashed into a creek bank near the rural community of Bangor, Butte County.
The California Highway Patrol said that the 32-year-old driver was not wearing a seat belt at about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday when he was traveling east on La Porte Road near Upham Road.
The unidentified driver from Live Oak, Sutter County, crested a hill, lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway. The vehicle traveled across Honcut Creek in the air and crashed into the far embankment of the stream.
Despite measures at the scene to save the driver, he died at the scene.
