How you can help family of 14-year-old drowning victim
An online fundraising campaign is underway to help the family of a 14-year-old boy who drowned in the American River near Folsom’s Rainbow Bridge this week.
Nearly $8,000 had been raised by Saturday morning to help the family of Micheal Powell pay for the boy’s funeral, the original goal of the fundraising effort. The goal has been increased to $15,000 to raise additional funds for his family.
Powell, of Orangevale, was hanging out with a fellow classmate of Andrew Carnegie Middle School on Monday and was last seen jumping off rocks into the river. Investigators said they believe Powell was not wearing a life jacket. Powell’s body was found three days later by a search-and-rescue team.
