Cosumnes firefighters extinguish a fire in a storm drain

Cosumnes Fire Department firefighters extinguished a fire in a storm drain in Elk Grove on Wednesday, an event Battalion Chief Kris Hubbard called “a little bit unusual.”

There may have been debris in the drain, which is more of a culvert underneath the roadway at Bruceville Road and Whitelock Parkway, and that people who may have been homeless could have been inside.

Firefighters went inside “just to confirm for safety’s sake that there are no victims down in there,” Hubbard said.

The fire is listed was listed as suspicious, pending further investigation, he said.
