Police investigate report of shots fired near North Natomas candlelight vigil

Shots allegedly were fired during a Wednesday night candlelight vigil in the North Natomas neighborhood where a carjacking suspect was found dead following a standoff with police Tuesday night.

Sacramento police spokeswoman Officer Traci Trapani said police were standing by during the vigil when there was a report of someone driving recklessly in area and allegedly firing gunshots. She said the gunshots have not been confirmed, adding that they were not directed at officers and no one was reported injured.

As of about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Trapani said police were sending gang detectives and other available personnel to the area in an effort to deter any violence.
