Southern California authorities early Friday arrested a man suspected in the death of a 49-year-old woman and wounding of a little girl in El Dorado County.
El Dorado Sheriff’s Office detectives were alerted at 1:50 a.m. that Bernardo Castillo, 24, had been arrested by El Centro police. Officers in El Centro had responded to a call report of a suspicious vehicle.
Officers checked the vehicle registration and discovered it was associated with Castillo, who was being sought in the stabbing death of Silvia Castillo, 49, of Placerville. He is also suspected of stabbing a 4-year-old girl, who was not identified.
Bernardo Castillo was placed under arrest by El Centro officers. El Dorado County detectives traveled Friday to El Centro in Imperial County.
Silvia Castillo and the child were stabbed in a residence in the 3000 block of Newtown Road, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a stabbing about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday and found Silvia Castillo dead and the girl wounded inside the home.
No further information has been released about Bernardo Castillo’s relation to Silvia Castillo and the girl.
