Dunnigan man dies after veering off road in North Natomas
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal car crash of a Dunnigan man who veered off the road and into a ditch Sunday afternoon.
Around 4:04 p.m., the driver of a Ford F-250 was traveling eastbound on West Elverta Road on the west side of East Levee Road when he veered to the right side of the road into a farm area, according to CHP spokesman Officer Chad Hertzell.
The driver, 58, sustained major injuries and died at the scene, Hertzell said.
Hertzell said the driver was alone, and officers do not currently suspect another car caused the crash. He said the driver, whose identity will be released later by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, was “probably going above the highway speed” limit.
“It’s a straightaway – there’s nothing particular about this location that would cause people to veer off the road,” Hertzell said. “It’s just a place you can happen to pick up a lot of speed, in a rural area.”
It’s unknown whether alcohol or drugs played any role in the accident. Hertzell said that because the truck had crashed into a ditch away from the road, traffic was unaffected by the incident.
