Carjacking suspect in custody after pursuit ends in crash on Highway 50 in Sacramento

A carjacking suspect has been taken into custody after a pursuit that began in the Arden Arcade area ended with a crash on Highway 50 at 65th Street in Sacramento.

Sacramento County sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman said a woman was pumping gas into her silver sedan at a station at Auburn Boulevard and Watt Avenue about 1:55 p.m. when a man took her car and drove away.

A California Highway Patrol unit and a Sheriff’s Department K9 officer were nearby and caught up with the vehicle at Marconi and Howe avenues, but the vehicle did not yield and a pursuit ensued.

Bowman said the CHP took over the pursuit at that point. The chase needed when the suspect crashed the vehicle at the eastbound Highway 50 off ramp at 65th Street.

The suspect was taken into custody and the Sheriff’s Department has taken over the investigation. Bowman said the victim was being brought to the scene to see whether she could identify the suspect.
