Sheriff’s homicide detectives have made an arrest in the Tuesday night killing of a gas station clerk.
Alexander Lopez, 40, of Sacramento was arrested by Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives on suspicion of murder. He was taken into custody at a relative’s home Wednesday afternoon in Sacramento.
He is suspected of killing Simranjit Singh, 20, a clerk at the Chevron Station at 8498 Florin Road.
An employee of the gas station was cleaning the parking lot at the station about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when he had words with two or three men who were loitering. One of the men hit the employee.

The employee then went inside the gas station store to call 911 about the assault. At that time, Singh, a co-worker of the employee who was struck, went outside.
Deputies said that Singh was then shot in the upper torso. The suspects then fled.
