Alert neighbor, open gate lead to arrest in Rocklin burglary
An observant neighbor and a gate left ajar led to the arrest of a suspected burglar in Rocklin.
A resident called police about 9:40 p.m. Saturday to report a man who appeared to be checking backyard gates in the 5300 block of Par Place, according to a Rocklin Police Department news release.
Officers arrived and were unable to locate the man. But on further investigation, they noticed that a gate to the backyard of a nearby home was ajar. The officers entered the backyard of the residence, where they spotted an open door.
The house appeared to have been ransacked, police reported, and officers located a man inside.
The man, identified as 29-year-old Juan Carlos Martinez of Lincoln, was taken into custody without incident, the news release said. He was booked into Placer County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary.
