A man who had been released an hour earlier from Sacramento County Jail was arrested again early Thursday in Folsom on suspicion of stealing a taxi, police said.
Matthew Carl Griffin, 25, punched a cab driver and stole both his cell phone and his vehicle, police said. The incident took place about 4 a.m. near the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Greenback Lane.
Griffin had been released from Sacramento County Jail just before 3 a.m. He had earlier been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, according to Folsom police.
The 57-year-old cab driver was able to get help after Griffin kicked him out of his car. Folsom police searched the area and were able to find the car within a few minutes on Folsom Boulevard near Highway 50. Griffin was stopped and arrested, and is in custody on suspicion of carjacking and robbery.
