Was anyone charged in 2001 shooting death at Orangevale apartment?

Q: Has anyone ever been charged with the killing of a man named Scott Joseph Lee in Orangevale in 1999 or the early 2000s?

Doubler, Sacramento

A: No arrests have been reported in the slaying of 23-year-old Scott Joseph Lee on March 26, 2001.

Lee’s body was found in bushes outside his residence at the Heather Ridge Apartments on Greenback Lane in Orangevale. He had been shot several times in the torso, according to a story in The Sacramento Bee.

A Sacramento County sheriff’s spokesman said at the time that detectives were puzzled by the events surrounding the death.

Lee was speaking on the phone with his sister at 11:30 p.m., when he was attacked. His sister heard the commotion and then the phone went dead.

Lee’s father and girlfriend went to Lee’s ground-floor apartment, where they found the front door open and no one inside, sheriff’s officials said. They searched around the yard and found Lee’s body between two apartment buildings.

Sheriff’s officials said at the time that there was no obvious motive for the shooting, although robbery was a possibility.
