The California Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s help in finding the driver of a pickup truck that struck a pedestrian near Auburn and then left the scene Thursday night.
The CHP identified the pedestrian as Ronald Peavey, 54, of Auburn. Officials said he sustained major injuries.
Peavey was walking along the right shoulder of southbound Highway 49 north of central Auburn and just north of Holly Vista Way around 8:50 p.m. when he was struck by the vehicle. The driver did not stop at the scene.
Eyewitnesses described the vehicle as a 2006 to 2010 dark blue or black Dodge Ram pickup. The truck is missing the right-side exterior mirror. The driver of the pickup was described as a white male in his 30s with a shaved head.
