A week after a deputy was killed in a shootout at a Ramada Inn in Sacramento, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is still remembering veteran patrol officer Robert French.

French, called an “amazing patrol officer” by one colleague, died Aug. 30 at the age of 52.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department remembered French in a Facebook post Friday afternoon mentioning his appearance on the reality TV show, “Cops,” which has been filmed in Sacramento on several occasions.

“If he looks familair (sic) to you, perhaps you saw him on an episode of COPS when they filmed here in Sacramento!” the post reads. “The COPS Production Crew was so kind to send us some memories from their time filming with Bob.”

The post included an unofficial YouTube link to a clip in which French briefly appeared.

Amid supportive Facebook comments, users responded with another YouTube link to a longer clip featuring French from the show’s 24th season, which aired in 2011. The clip contains some graphic violence.

Donations and fundraisers collecting thousands of dollars in memorial funds, a visit from the U.S. Honor Flag and Thursday’s packed memorial service with thousands paying respects all indicate an outpouring of support from within and outside of the law enforcement community.
