A motorcyclist from South Lake Tahoe who died Sunday afternoon following a collision at Woodfords Junction near Markleeville has been identified as Charleen R. Blackburn, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred about 4:48 p.m. at the intersection of Highways 88 and 89. Blackburn, 64, was riding her 2005 Harley Davidson westbound on Highway 88 and was slowing for the Highway 89 junction to Markleeville, intending to turn left onto southbound Highway 89, according to a CHP news release.
A 58-year-old Gardnerville, Nev., woman was eastbound on Highway 88, traveling 50 to 55 mph in a 2002 Buick LeSabre, approaching the Highway 89 junction. The two vehicles arrived at the highway junction about the same time and the motorcyclist failed to yield the right of way, making a left turn across the eastbound lane, directly in the path of the Buick, the news release said. Nagel applied the brakes to her vehicle, but had neither the time nor distance to avoid a collision, according to the CHP.
Blackburn was thrown form the motorcycle and landed in the westbound lane of Highway 88. She was taken by air ambulance to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, but died of her injuries either en route to or at the hospital, the news release said.
