Child car set checkups offered Thursday in Rancho Cordova

A children’s car seat checkup event will be held Thursday in Rancho Cordova as part of Safe Kids Day celebrations.

Certified car seat technicians from Safe Kids Greater Sacramento will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot, 10655 Folsom Blvd., to help parents make sure car seats are correctly installed. Rancho Cordova police officers and Nationwide Insurance staff members will be on hand to play safety games with families.

Road injuries are a leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children in the United States, and correct use of child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent, according to a Safe Kids news release.

Parents seeking assistance should bring their car seat, car seat instructions and their child.

Thursday’s event is supported by a joint grant to the Rancho Cordova Police Department and Dignity Health from the California Office of Traffic Safety to promote child safety when using car seats. Parents unable to attend can call their local California Highway Patrol office or visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website to find a car seat checkup event.

Call The Bee’s Cathy Locke, (916) 321-5287.
