Witnesses said Lewis was in the crosswalk on Atlantic Street when she was hit. The driver apparently saw her just before reaching the intersection, hit the brakes and skidded sideways into her. The driver regained control of the car and drove off, witnesses said.
Police said at the time that the only information they had was that the car was a white 1975 to 1978 two-door hatchback, possibly a Toyota or Datsun.
