Motorcyclist killed in head-on collision in El Dorado County

A 62-year-old Placerville man was killed Tuesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding crossed into the path of an oncoming vehicle in El Dorado County.

Steven Marcki was riding the motorcycle eastbound on Pleasant Valley Road near Karl Drive in Diamond Springs about 12:30 p.m. when he crossed over double yellow lines and began passing a vehicle, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. He crossed into the path of a westbound 2007 Kia driven by 36-year-old Kristin Selmyhr of Somerset.

Selmyhr tried to take evasive action but was unable to avoid a head-on collision with the motorcycle, according to the CHP.

Marcki was pronounced dead at the scene.

Selmyhr and her passenger complained of minor injuries and were transported by the CHP to Marshall Medical Center in Placerville for treatment, the news release said.
