Two men convicted of murder in 2014 marijuana robbery
Two men were convicted Thursday of first-degree murder by a Sacramento Superior Court jury for the killing of Vincent Amaya, with a special circumstance of committing the murder during the course of a robbery.
Shaquille Huston, 22, and Dayvon Stroupe, 21, and two other unidentified assailants met Amaya, 18, at Florin Meadows Apartments in Sacramento on Nov. 17, 2014, to buy marijuana. The four attempted to rob Amaya of his marijuana, during which time one of them fatally shot the 18-year-old in his torso.
Huston and Stroupe face maximum sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Stroupe’s sentencing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 1, while Huston’s is scheduled for 4 p.m. Dec. 19.
Amaya was shot on 29th Street, a few blocks from Luther Burbank High School. He left behind a fiancée and a 1-year-old daughter, according to a relative’s GoFundMe page.
