Trish, Suisun City
A: Daniel Stephen Mitchell remains in Solano County Jail awaiting trial on charges of child cruelty with the possibility of causing injury or death, child abandonment and possession of narcotics.
His next court date, for a trial readiness and trial setting conference, is scheduled for Nov. 29, according to Solano County Superior Court records available online.
Mitchell, 19, was arrested in July after he allegedly abandoned his 16-day-old son in a parking lot of a Suisun City shopping center.
Suisun City police received a call about 3:15 p.m. July 24 reporting that an infant had been abandoned in the parking lot area of a barber shop in the Sunset Shopping Center. Barbershop employees saw a baby carrier in the parking lot and found a baby inside, the Police Department reported. Officers and medical personnel responded to the shopping center and the baby was transported to an area hospital.
Officers interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance video that showed the suspect, identified as Mitchell, and his vehicle. While officers were still at the shopping center, Mitchell was involved in a hit-and-run collision in Fairfield. He was taken into custody by Fairfield police and subsequently identified as the infant’s father, according to police.
Police said Mitchell was previously arrested June 27 by Suisun City officers on multiple felony charges following a report of a burglary.
Online court records show he also faces charges of carrying a loaded firearm in public and receiving stolen property.
