Investigation launched after human remains found in Butte County
The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is trying to determine the identity of a person whose remains were found Friday in the Bangor area.
A resident discovered the remains about 2:30 p.m. on property near Upham Road, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Deputies responded to the area and were able to recover the remains with the assistance of sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers. The Sheriff’s Office said it appeared the body had been at the location for several months.
The remains are being sent to the state Department of Justice and California State University, Chico’s Department of Anthropology for identification. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the cause of death has not been determined, the news release said.
Because of the condition of the remains and where they were found, the circumstances of the death are considered suspicious, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information pertaining to the case is asked to call Detective Will Brewton at 530-538-7671.
