Man fatally stabbed near Stockton Boulevard identified
Sacramento police are searching for a suspect in a fatal stabbing in an apartment Sunday afternoon in south Sacramento.
At about 2:15 p.m., officers responded to an apartment in the 5900 block of Riza Avenue after someone called the police to report a stabbing victim. When they arrived, they discovered a male victim with at least one stab wound, said SPD spokesman Detective Eddie Macaulay. Officers administered CPR on scene, but the victim, later identified as Anthony Freas by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, was declared dead when he arrived at the hospital.
Freas and the suspect knew each other and there was at least one other person in the apartment at the time, though no one else was injured, Macaulay said. When officers arrived, they were told the suspect fled the area, so the crime scene was isolated to one apartment. The complex is near the intersection of Riza Avenue and Stockton Boulevard in the Lemon Hill neighborhood.
Macaulay said said the incident was not gang related.
“Our investigators are actively working on tracking down the suspect,” he said.
