Whitney Avenue Elementary School was locked down for about a half-hour early Wednesday afternoon after school officials received a report that someone was on campus with a gun.
The call was received about 1:14 p.m. from a female caller. School staff members said they had not seen anyone on the campus, at 4248 Whitney Ave. in the Arden Arcade area, but they locked down the school as a precaution, Sacramento County sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Bowman said in an email.
Patrol deputies and Safe Schools officers arrived about three minutes later and searched the campus. A law enforcement helicopter also checked the campus from the air, but no one was found. Bowman said deputies used ladders to check the roof and went to individual classrooms.
The lockdown was lifted at 1:47 p.m.

Bowman said sheriff’s officials do not know whether the call was a prank or whether the individual left before deputies arrived. She said no one was injured.
