Police say man apparently killed self after brandishing gun at Elk Grove auto dealership

A man who allegedly brandished a gun at a repo agent at an Elk Grove auto dealership Monday afternoon is believed to have committed suicide, police say.

Elk Grove police spokesman Officer Christopher Trim said officers responded to the Maita Chevrolet dealership in the 9600 block of Auto Center Drive shortly after 2 p.m. An agent was repossessing a vehicle when the man associated with the vehicle reportedly brandished a handgun at the agent, Trim said.

When officers arrived, the armed man ran from the front parking lot into the business. Employees and customers were yelling to police that the man had a gun, Trim said.

The man ran through the main entrance of the showroom and toward an elevator in the back. As officers approached, Trim said, they heard a gunshot, and when they rounded a corner, they found the man lying on the floor with a gunshot wound. The handgun was on the floor, an arms length from the man, who died at the scene.

Trim said the armed man had fired no other shots and no one else was injured. He said police are investigating the incident.
