Elk Grove auto mall apparent suicide victim was West Sacramento man

Coroner’s deputies released the name of the man who allegedly brandished a gun at an Elk Grove auto dealership Monday before apparently turning the weapon on himself.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office website identified the man as John Connor, 29, of West Sacramento.

Elk Grove police spokesman Officer Christopher Trim said officers responded to the Maita Chevrolet dealership in the 9600 block of Auto Center Drive shortly after 2 p.m. Monday. An agent was repossessing a vehicle when the man associated with the vehicle, Connor, reportedly brandished a handgun at the agent, Trim said.

When officers arrived, Connor ran from the front parking lot into the business. Employees and customers were yelling to police that the man had a gun, Trim said.

Connor ran through the main entrance of the showroom and toward an elevator in the back. As officers approached, Trim said, they heard a gunshot, and when they rounded a corner, they found Connor lying on the floor with a gunshot wound. The handgun was on the floor, an arms length from Connor, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:21 p.m.

Trim said Connor had fired no other shots and no one else was injured. He said police are investigating the incident.
