Driver killed by freight train in Davis is identified

A man killed when his vehicle was struck by a freight train Tuesday night on the outskirts of Davis has been identified by the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office-Coroner.

The chief deputy coroner identified the man as Ernesto Arango, 54, of Davis.

A Union Pacific Railroad spokesman said that at about 11:50 p.m. Tuesday a company locomotive hit a vehicle at County Road 105 and County Road 32A, an intersection near Interstate 80 just east of Davis.

Arango suffered fatal injuries. Train traffic resumed around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday.

The locomotive engineer and conductor were put in touch with peer counselors. Railroad peer counselors are also engineers and conductors who lend support to UP employees following crashes.
