A drug bust in Elk Grove Friday morning yielded more than 500 plants and 94 pounds of cultivated marijuana, authorities say.

Modesto resident Jorge Betancourt, 33, was arrested after authorities raided his grow house on the 6600 block of Rio De Onaro Way, according to an Elk Grove Police Department news release distributed Monday. Police also believe he was illegally siphoning off electricity from nearby residents to power heat lamps and other equipment.

Betancourt remains in Sacramento County Jail custody on felony charges of obtaining unauthorized utility services and management of a place used to manufacture or store a controlled substance, as well as misdemeanor counts of distribution of marijuana, cultivation of more than six marijuana plants and possession with intent to sell. He is been ruled ineligible for bail.
