About 80 Sacramento firefighters battled a predawn blaze in midtown Sacramento on Saturday before knocking down a fire that erupted in the basement of a large Victorian home.
Sacramento Fire spokesman Robert Padilla said firefighters were called to the unoccupied structure near 21st and T streets at about 3:30 a.m. for a fire that began in the basement and eventually reached the attic.
“They did a great job,” Padilla said. “We had heavy fire in the basement and it quickly started extending...They saved the whole building.”
Padilla said one firefighter suffered a minor injury but did not require hospitalization. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
