Stolen credit cards used to purchase thousands of dollars in gift cards

Placer County sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man and woman suspected of using stolen credits cards to purchase thousands of dollars in gift cards.

The credits cards were stolen Dec. 23 from a purse in an unlocked car in Placer County. The credit cards subsequently were used at Best Buy in Natomas to purchase gift cards, according to a Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. The man and woman then went to the Apple store in Arden Fair Mall and purchased $4,000 in gift cards, and then to the Best Buy store at Arden Fair, where they bought an Apple laptop computer with gift cards, the news release said.

The Sheriff’s Office released surveillance photos of the man and woman, and ask anyone who recognizes them to call detectives at 916-652-2423. People who wish to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if the tip leads to an arrest, are advised to contact Placer County Crime Stoppers at 800-923-8191, or via the Crime Stoppers website at tips.placercrimestoppers.com.
