He said he was collecting subscriber information for a Texas-based energy company.

But when Placer County sheriff’s deputies ran a records check on the man Wednesday, they discovered Justin A. Hale was wanted for kidnapping and for failing to register as a sex offender in Washington state, according to a department Facebook post. And he didn’t have the proper permit to conduct door-to-door sales.

Hale, 20, of North Highlands had been going up to houses on Seeno Avenue in Granite Bay when he was spotted by Deputy Chris Carlton, the post said. All door-to-door salesmen are required to have a peddler permit in Placer County.

Hale is now awaiting extradition to Washington state in the South Placer Jail. Placer County deputies warned residents in the post to be cautious when salespeople arrive at the door – except for Girl Scouts.
