Coroner identifies man found dead in Sacramento park pond

A man who was found dead in a pond at a Sacramento park earlier this month has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 24-year-old John L. Webb.

No city of residence was given for Webb, whose body was found Jan. 10 in a pond, known as Mungers Lake, at Reichmuth Park. The cause of death currently is listed as undetermined.

A man and woman who had waded into the pond to see what birds were out that morning found Webb’s body in the water about 100 feet from shore.

The Sacramento Fire Department responded to the couple’s call about 9 a.m. and confirmed that Webb was dead.
